Young and old, no matter the walk of life, sooner or later we will find ourselves in problematic, uphill, exhausting, and strenuous situations. The worrying spirit, often accompanied by the spirit of fear, seeks such occasions, consuming our thoughts and draining our energy. Jesus reminds us that worrying does not add a single hour to our lives (Matthew 6:27). The Apostles, to whom He was also talking, needed this more than ever as they preached and baptized. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 4:11, “even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place.” He and the Apostles sent to the Jews definitely had plenty to worry about, especially their lives. Like them, we are called to put our trust in God, knowing that He is the source of all we need. I describe this as a “zero gravity faith,” or ZGF for short. Just as astronauts in space experience a sense of weightlessness, when we fully rely on God, we can experience a spiritual “zero gravity” – a sense of peace and freedom from the weight of worry and fear.
In ZGF, our thoughts and emotions are not tethered to the circumstances, the pain, the person or group, or event around us, but are anchored in the unshakable promises of God and His Word concerning us. Paul taught us the secret to obtaining ZGF in Philippians 4:6-7, when he wrote, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” When we choose to cast our cares on God and trust in His provision, we can experience this blessed state of peace that surpasses all understanding.
Entering into ZGF, floating in the assurance of God’s love and care, is an incredible spiritual state to exist in. It takes practice to float on the help and comfort of the Holy Spirit. In every situation, may we learn to lean on Him, our unshakable source of hope and strength, and experience the freedom and lightness of letting go of worry and fear. So lean back in zero gravity faith and let the Love of God carry you along any trial, for He is holding you in His mighty hands.
